VERDICT/SETTLEMENT
This is a medical negligence claim brought by a 66 year old man who presented to a local hospital in the Summer of 2006 for treatment of an aortic aneurysm. In the course of his treatment, a CT scan of his pelvic and abdominal area revealed a ” segment of sigmoid colonic wall thickening, inflammatory process or diverticular disease.” The plaintiff returned home and was not notified by his primary care physician or the local hospital about the abnormal findings. As a result, the plaintiff’s condition, colorectal cancer, went undiagnosed for five months, allowing the cancer to grow and spread to the plaintiff’s liver.
The defendant physicians, among other things, failed to properly assess and diagnose the decedent plaintiff’s condition, failed to order necessary and appropriate additional testing, failed to obtain appropriate consults with specialists, and otherwise failed to ensure the safety of the plaintiff.
Injuries/Specials (if any): As a result, the plaintiff has suffered, and will continue to suffer, from extreme physical pain and suffering, mental pain and anguish, a loss of enjoyment of life, and a loss of opportunities.
Verdict/Settlement: The parties reached a settlement for a confidential amount before suit was filed.
